April 21, 2013 – 2 Chronicles 36
Date: April 21st, 2013 (Communion 10:50)
Text: II Chronicles 36:
Possible Memory Verse:
Theme: How many times do the people of Judah need to be overrun, exiled or put in bondage before they realize that it happens every time because of their disobedience? How many times are they going to ignore the prophets God sent them to warn them? This is not rocket science. It is really simple. Obey God and things go well. Disobey God and life gets really hard. The writer of Chronicles has tried to get his audience to recognize this simple pattern so they might turn their whole heart to the Lord to enjoy the Shalom of God. We stand on that same threshold here in the US in the 21st century. We have enjoyed great prosperity, security and peace for a long time because our nation for a long time looked to God for guidance, values and out of devotion and love. But, suddenly (within the last 50 years) we find precious few true believers who have not bowed a knee to Baal and honor the Lord God as He asks us to honor Him and as He deserves to be honored. What will be our fate? What will be our destiny? Never forget, God owes the US nothing. He has made no covenants or promises to the United States like He had to Israel and Judah. Because of our disobedience and rebellion, He has every right in the world to eliminate the US from the face of the earth. And 50 years from now, we would be nothing more than a faint memory in the minds of the retiring generation. We are ignoring the prophets God has sent us.
